Lipoedema column - Authentic everyday tips from a sufferer
Hey, I'm Talia, 32 years old and I've been suffering from stage 2 lipoedema for a long time. I've been officially diagnosed for more than three years now.
How did the diagnosis come about? What were my symptoms and why did I go to the doctor? I would like to tell you briefly here.
I've had achy, stronger and bumpy legs for a long time. It started with puberty and hormonal contraception. I put on weight and in the evening I had pain in my calves. I thought nothing of it. At some point, the pain became part of me and I probably had thicker legs because I wasn't doing any sport. At least that's what I thought.
Until I started to take more care of myself.
I stopped taking hormonal contraception, paid attention to my diet and did a lot of sport.
I changed. Became more sporty and fitter. My upper body became narrower and you could see muscles, but my legs remained voluminous, flabby and unfortunately there was no sign of muscle.
This was the first time I realised that something couldn't be right. I looked it up on the internet and was confronted with the chronic disease lipoedema for the first time.
I made an appointment with a phlebologist and after a few tests and a consultation, I was discharged with stage 2 lipoedema and a prescription for compression.
This changed my life. I wasn't prepared for it and didn't know what to do next. There is no cure yet, only relief of the symptoms through compression, exercise, anti-inflammatory nutrition or liposuction.
In the next few months, I will take you with me into my life with lipoedema, give you tips for everyday life with lipoedema, share my thoughts and am very happy to exchange ideas with you.
All the best to you,
Talia :)
