Lipedema Column – Authentic Everyday Tips from an Affected Person

Hey, I am Talia, 32 years old and have been suffering from lipedema stage 2 for a long time. I have been officially diagnosed for more than three years now.

How did the diagnosis come about? What were my symptoms and why did I then go to the doctor? I would like to briefly tell you about it here.

I had painful, stronger, and dimpled legs for quite some time. It started with puberty and hormonal contraception. I gained weight and in the evenings, I had pain in my calves. I didn't think much of it. At some point, the pain became a part of me, and I assumed I had thicker legs because I didn't exercise. At least, that's what I thought.

Until the moment I started paying more attention to myself.

I stopped hormonal contraception, paid attention to my diet, and exercised a lot.

I changed. Became more athletic and fitter. My upper body became slimmer and muscles were visible, but the legs remained unchanged, voluminous, dimpled, and unfortunately, no muscles were visible.

Here, I became aware for the first time that something might be wrong. I looked it up on the internet and was confronted with the chronic disease lipedema for the first time.

I made an appointment with the phlebologist and was then discharged with stage 2 lipedema and a prescription for compression after some tests and a consultation.

That changed my life. I wasn't prepared for it and didn't know what to do now. There is no cure so far, only relief of symptoms through compression, exercise, anti-inflammatory diet, or liposuction.
I will take you along in the coming months into my life with lipedema, give you tips for everyday life with lipedema, share my thoughts, and I am very much looking forward to exchanging ideas with you.

All the best for you,
Talia :)
