Lipedema Column – Part 10

Nutrition for Lipedema: What Helped Me.

The right diet can make a big difference with lipedema. Many affected individuals have already tried numerous diets and have, for example, experimented with low carb or ketogenic diets to alleviate their symptoms.

With Low Carb, carbohydrates are significantly reduced to keep blood sugar levels stable. With Low Carb, I was able to reduce water retention, but in the long run, it wasn't the right fit for me.

The ketogenic diet goes even further: It relies almost entirely on fats and proteins to put the body into a state of ketosis, burning fat instead of carbohydrates.

But not every diet helps equally. I have tested many diets, and the anti-inflammatory diet helped me the most. This form of nutrition relies on natural, unprocessed foods that reduce inflammation in the body and relieve the lymphatic system.

True to the motto: Back to natural foods.

What is anti-inflammatory nutrition?

Anti-inflammatory nutrition aims to relieve the body, promote circulation, and minimize inflammatory responses.

Foods that help you:

● Lots of fresh fruits and vegetables (e.g., berries, green vegetables, broccoli)
● Healthy fats (e.g., avocado, olive oil, nuts, flaxseeds)
● High-quality proteins (e.g., legumes, tempeh, fish like salmon)
● Herbs and spices (e.g., turmeric, ginger, cinnamon)
● Plenty of water, celery juice, and herbal teas for detoxification

Unsuitable foods:

● Sugar and white flour products
● Industrial processed foods
● Dairy products (promote inflammation)
● Meat and sausages
● Unhealthy fats, like chips…(trans fats, hydrogenated oils)
● Caffeine

My Experiences

And it works for you too!

The anti-inflammatory diet has positively changed my life; it is a long-term adjustment for an easier life with lipedema. It not only helps to reduce pain but also enhances overall well-being. It is important to start step by step and not to overwhelm yourself. Every small change counts!

Start, for example, by replacing refined sugar. Instead of refined sugar, I use date sweetness (you can buy it at dm) for sweetening, baking, and cooking. It's a small change that can make such a big difference. Just give it a try 🙂
