Questions about Lipedema & Lymphedema
Venen Engel: Hello Beatrice, thank you so much for taking the time. To start, can you tell us a bit about your experiences as someone affected by lipedema and lymphedema and how the condition impacts your daily life?

Beatrice: As someone affected, it is very difficult to ensure that even your own environment understands that living with lipedema and lymphedema is a new daily challenge. The pain you experience sometimes becomes unbearable, so much so that you resort to painkillers to get through the day. Others can neither perceive nor see this. Some days are good, especially when it's colder. On other days, feet and legs swell so much that you can hardly stand. It's no different for sedentary jobs. Simple things like shopping, putting on shoes, even choosing socks are part of everyday life. The psyche is constantly burdened because one has to continuously compensate. Often, movement is restricted. And sometimes it even hurts just to touch your thigh. This sensitivity is also reflected in the mood. Those who suffer from chronic pain will be able to relate. One suffers silently and still tries to smile. In doing so, one desperately searches for solutions that can restore their quality of life.
Venom Angel: When were you diagnosed and how did you react to it?
Beatrice: My struggle has been going on for 20 years. It started with my first abdominal surgery. At first, I didn't take it seriously myself. Initially, I just thought, "Yes, I need to lose weight." That's also how the doctor conveyed it to me: "You are obese, lose weight." The extent and difficulties crept in over the years and became significantly worse. Despite exercise and dietary changes. I did lose weight, but the deposits kept coming back. So the struggle continues.

Compression stockings and lip- & lymphedema
Venom Angel: Do you have experience using compression stockings to treat your lipedema and lymphedema?
Beatrice: Yes, you grasp at every straw you can get. They help to some extent.
Venom Angel: Can you tell us a bit about how compression stockings have helped alleviate the symptoms of your lipedema and lymphedema?
Beatrice: I use them when I have to fly and I'm heading south. Otherwise, I wear them when I have to stand for long periods, e.g., at a trade fair, or sit in the office all day. Otherwise, I wouldn't be able to cope the days after, due to pain and swelling. Everyday life is definitely easier with compression stockings.
Venom Angel: What were the most important considerations for you when choosing compression stockings for your lipedema and lymphedema?
Beatrice: The fit: They must not be too tight or too loose. They must not cut in. The quality: I don't want dry skin and I don't want to sweat in it either. And the wearing comfort: I want to feel them as little as possible. A nice look is a bonus, so you can still wear a dress in the summer.

Specific questions about compression stockings
Venom Angel: What type of compression stockings do you use?
Beatrice: The ones you usually get. I should wear thigh-high stockings, but I only wear knee-high socks.
Venom Angel: Do you have experience with medical compression stockings or special variants for the summer?
Beatrice: I have tried different stockings and was never really satisfied. The ones I have are for both summer and winter.
Venom Angel: How long do you wear your compression stockings daily, and are there differences in the wearing time depending on the time of day or activity?
Beatrice: Depending on the weather and plans. Sometimes all day. But usually only when it absolutely has to be.
Venom Angel: How do you feel about putting on your compression stockings? Are there any tips or tricks you can share?
Beatrice: It is somewhat cumbersome. A dressing aid is very helpful. When taking them off, there is definitely a good trick: You shouldn't take them off like normal socks. Instead, you take the top end of the sock in both hands, hold it tight, and simply pull it off over the foot. As if you wanted to turn them inside out.

Additional Questions
Venom Angel: What advice would you give to other people who are dealing with lipedema and/or lymphedema or similar conditions?
Beatrice: First and foremost, one should talk openly with their relatives about it. Communicate how everyday life really is, when you are in pain, and when you are feeling well. Ask for understanding. Join a community. Exchange ideas with others affected. Above all, inform yourself about the different solutions and find your own way to improve your quality of life again. Never give up!
Venom Angel: Is there anything else you would like to share?
Beatrice: There is not ONE solution. Because there is not ONE symptom. Take time for yourself and your body, because it is the house of your soul.
Venom Angel: What helps you, apart from compression stockings, in everyday life to relieve the pain?
Beatrice: I got the Venen Engel 8 Premium 2 years ago because my physiotherapist no longer had capacity and I also didn't receive any more prescriptions. It is in use almost daily and has drastically improved my symptoms. Additionally, I take various herbs that support me with their effects from the inside.
